This isn't a true martini; it's a steak salad, served in a martini glass. Beef tri-tip steak is marinated in a mixture of citrus-flavored vodka, Dijon mustard, and olive oil, then grilled and sliced into strips. The strips are arranged on mixed greens in large martini glasses, along with crumbled blue cheese, chopped red onion and tomatoes. It is drizzled with a vodka and oil dressing.

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup citrus-flavored vodka, divided use
  • 1/2 cup Dijon-style mustard
  • 1/2 cup olive oil, divided use
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 lb beef Tri-Tip Steak
  • 1 red onion, finely diced, divided use
  • 12 oz. Mixed baby greens
  • 8 oz. blue cheese, crumbled
  • 2 Roma tomatoes, finely chopped

Method

Mix 1/3 c. vodka, the mustard, 1/4 c. olive oil, salt and pepper. Marinate the steak in Martini Marinade at least six hours in the refrigerator. Remove steak from marinade and discard marinade. Grill steak to 140 degrees for medium-rare and let rest 10 minutes while covered. Slice across the grain into strips; set aside. To make dressing, mix 2 Tbsp diced onion, remaining vodka and oil with salt and pepper; set aside. To serve, place 1 cup salad greens in each of 4 large martini glasses. Top with steak, blue cheese, onion and tomatoes in small rows. Drizzle with dressing.

Notes: This makes a great luncheon presentation, or portions can be cut down to serve as an appetizer.
