Kamakazi Beef Skewers

Sirloin is marinated in sesame seeds, wasabi powder, soy sauce, oil, rice vinegar and brown sugar, threaded onto skewers and served with a sauce.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Tbsp. sesame seeds
  • 2 Tbsp. + 2 tsp. wasabi powder, divided use
  • 1 Tbsp. water
  • 2 Tbsp. soy sauce, divided use
  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 3 Tbsp. rice vinegar, divided use
  • 1 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 lbs. boneless beef sirloin steak
  • 1/2 tsp. chives, chopped

Method

In a small bowl, combine sesame seeds, 2 Tbsp wasabi powder, 1 Tbsp. Water, 1 Tbsp. soy sauce, 2 Tbsp olive oil, 2 Tbsp. rice wine vinegar and 1 tbsp. brown sugar. Mix well. Trim any visible fat from steak. Cut steak across grain into thin strips (approx. 1/4-inch thick.) Place beef strips in large plastic zipper bag, add marinade and toss to coat. Refrigerate 1-3 hours. While beef marinates, mix Kamakazi dipping sauce. Combine remaining 1 Tbsp. soy sauce, 1 Tbsp. rice vinegar, 2 tsp. Wasabi powder and chives in a small bowl. Put aside. Soak 16 wooden skewers (6-inch) in water for 10 minutes. Remove beef from marinade and discard marinade. Thread beef onto skewers. Place skewers on grill grid over medium heat. Grill, uncovered, 5-6 minutes for medium-rare to medium doneness. Serve with Kamakazi dipping sauce.

Notes: This has a nice heat level, but is not so spicy that guests cannot enjoy it!

Number of servings: 4
