Sauce: Mix teriyaki sauce, water and brown sugar in a saucepan then bring to a boil. Mix cornstarch with water. Add cornstarch mixture to saucepan and stir constantly until thickened then set aside. Saute mushrooms in butter until cooked, then drain. Add mushrooms beef or turkey. Stir in 2 teaspoons of teriyaki sauce from saucepan. Mix and form into patties. Grill on stove top or outdoor grill. When browned, top with a slice of cheese. Cover about 1 minute to melt cheese. To assemble, place patty on a toasted hamburger roll, topped with 1 tablespoon of sauce. Serve additional sauce on the side for dipping.
Notes: This recipe is adaptable for vegetarians by substituting a veggie burger for the meat patty. Another good substitution is a cooked chicken breast.
